Fabrice Murgia, né en 1983 à Verviers, est formé au Conservatoire de Liège par Jacques Delcuvellerie. Il a travaillé comme acteur pour le théâtre, le cinéma et la télévision. Aujourd’hui, il exerce en tant qu’auteur, metteur en scène et depuis peu, en tant que réalisateur.

Fabrice Murgia est fondateur et directeur artistique de la Compagnie ARTARA. En 2009, il écrit et met en scène son premier spectacle, Le chagrin des Ogres. La même année, il devient artiste associé du Théâtre National à Bruxelles.

C’est dans ce cadre, qu’il créé en 2010, Life:Reset/Chronique d’une ville épuisée, et Dieu est un DJ, adapté du texte homonyme de Falk Richter.

En trois spectacles, Fabrice Murgia pose les jalons d’un travail singulier : actualité des langages scéniques et problématiques générationnelles; spectacles hyper‐sensoriels qui utilisent les ressources des technologies avancées du son et de l’image ; place déterminante du récit et du jeu d’acteurs.

Les voyages font, par ailleurs, partie intégrante de la démarche artistique du créateur. Chaque production se voit donc nourrie d’interviews, d’images, de sons récoltés au gré des différents voyages entrepris.

En 2012, Fabrice crée Exils, création ouvrant l’ambitieux projet européen « Villes en scène/Cities on stage » qui rassemble 7 metteurs en scène européens.

S’ensuivront les mises en scène de : Les enfants de Jéhovah (2012) au Théâtre Vidy‐Lausanne; Ghost Road (2012) au Rotterdamse Schouwburg; Ghost Road: Children of Nowhere (2014) au Festival Santiago a Mil, en collaboration avec LOD muziektheater; Notre peur de n’être(2014) au Festival d’Avignon; Daral Shaga(2014), opéra/cirque à l’Opéra de Limoges en collaboration avec Feria Musica; et, Karbon Kabaret (2015), grand spectacle populaire sur l’identité liégeoise, présenté dans le cadre des Fêtes de Wallonie et de Mons 2015 Capitale Européenne de la Culture.

En 2016, il crée Black Clouds au Napoli Teatro Festival et il réalise son premier court-métrage Remember me avec le soutien de Versus Production.

De 2016 à 2021, il a été Directeur général et artistique du Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles.

En 2017, il met en scène Menuet, opéra composé par Daan Janssens et porté par LOD Muziektheater.

Sa création Sylvia en 2018, donne à voir la richesse et le conflit intérieur de la poétesse américaine des années 50 et 60, Sylvia Plath. Au plateau, Fabrice Murgia pousse un pas plus loin sa recherche sur ces mécanismes scéniques à la lisière du théâtre et du cinéma.

En septembre 2019, Fabrice créé aux côtés du musicien et compositeur Dominique Pauwels un nouvel opus du cycle Ghost Road : La mémoire des arbres. Pour ce troisième volet, l’équipe de création s’est rendue à Oziorsk en Russie, ville construite à la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale, dans le contexte de la course à l’armement nucléaire.

Janvier 2020, la Cie ARTARA travaille pour la première fois avec l’OPRL (Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège) : Fabrice Murgia se voit confier la mise en oeuvre d’un concert augmenté (OPRL+) de Romeo et Juliette, sous la direction musicale du directeur artistique des lieux, Gergely Madaras.

En novembre 2020, avec Leonardo Garcia Alarcón (Cappella Mediterranea), il met en scène Il Palazzo Incantato (Luigi Rossi) à l’Opéra de Dijon.

Pendant le Lockdown du Covid19, la compagnie subit de nombreuses annulations mais travaille sur deux projets de streaming : le  » JT2050 « , un journal télévisé fictif écrit avec plus de 300 adolescents, et Schauspieldirektor, une adaptation du Singspiel de Mozart pour le Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie.

En 2021, Fabrice travaille en tant que comédien et metteur en scène, avec l’auteur français Laurent Gaudé et crée La dernière nuit du monde, présentée lors du Festival d’Avignon. Dans la foulée, il livre également un texte à la demande du Teatro Stabile di Genova, à la mémoire des 20 ans du G8, et de la mort du manifestant Carlo Giuliani.

Il met également en scène le travail de fin d’études pour les acteurs de l’Institut del Teatro de Barcelone, Dies Blancs, présenté début 2022 au Teatre Lliure.

En juin 2022, avec Bruxelles-Laique et le Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, il crée le Festival Taktik – première édition d’un festival dédié aux jeunes, et s’étalant sur deux jours. La deuxième édition, qui change de nom et devient Chatbox Festival, est prévue pour 2024.Fabrice met également en scène la 8e édition de Décrocher la lune, Opéra Urbain d’une soirée rassemblant des artistes professionnels et amateurs de La Louvière, qui a lieu le 24 septembre 2022. Plus de 10.000 spectateurs ont assisté à l’évènement.

L’Opéra Royal de Wallonie fait également appel à Fabrice pour mettre en scène Il Turco in Italia, opéra-buffo de Rossini.

En 2023, Fabrice présente en duo avec Peggy Lee Cooper, Alma ; un spectacle mêlant comédie musicale, théâtre et cabaret.

Il collabore à nouveau avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège et Gergerly Madara et met en scène les tumultueuses aventures de Peer Gynt.

En 2024, il crée un spectacle avec Vladimir Steyaert destiné aux élèves du secondaire, qui sera présenté dans différentes écoles de Bruxelles, Wallonie mais également en France. Aaron reviendra sur le combat de l’activiste américain Aaron Swartz.

En janvier 2024, il met en scène Brodeck à l’Opera Ballet Vlaanderen et retravaille avec le compositeur Daan Janssens.

En septembre 2024, il crée Seasons pour l’ouverture du nouveau Théâtre de la Cité Bleue à Genève, avec Capella Mediterranea.

Cette saison, il signe la mise en scène de La Cenerentola de Rossini à l’Opéra National de Lorraine à Nancy.

Parallèlement à son travail de création, Fabrice Murgia et la Compagnie Artara donne régulièrement des ateliers de formation pour les acteurs – avec des comédiens et des techniciens – à travers le monde : Haïti, Sénégal, Egypte, Méditerranée… et autres projets citoyens.

Fabrice Murgia, born in Verviers in 1983, trained at the Conservatoire de Liège with Jacques Delcuvellerie. He has worked as an actor in theater, film and television. Today, he works as an author, stage director and, more recently, director.

Fabrice Murgia is founder and artistic director of Compagnie ARTARA. In 2009, he wrote and directed his first show, Le chagrin des Ogres. The same year, he became associate artist of the Théâtre National in Brussels.

In three shows, Fabrice Murgia has laid the foundations for a singular body of work: topical stage languages and generational issues; hyper-sensory shows that use the resources of advanced sound and image technologies; the decisive role of storytelling and acting.

Travelling is an integral part of the creator’s artistic approach. Each production is fed by interviews, images and sounds gathered during the various journeys undertaken.

In 2012, Fabrice created Exils, opening the ambitious European project “Villes en scène/Cities on stage”, which brought together 7 European directors.

In 2016, he created Black Clouds at the Napoli Teatro Festival and directed his first short film Remember me with the support of Versus Production.

From 2016 to 2021, he was General and Artistic Director of the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles.

In 2017, he directed Menuet, an opera composed by Daan Janssens and carried by LOD Muziektheater.

His 2018 creation, Sylvia, reveals the richness and inner conflict of the American poet of the ’50s and ’60s, Sylvia Plath. On stage, Fabrice Murgia takes his research into these scenic mechanisms on the edge of theater and cinema one step further.

In September 2019, Fabrice will work with musician and composer Dominique Pauwels to create a new opus in the Ghost Road cycle: La mémoire des arbres. For this third installment, the creative team travels to Oziorsk in Russia, a city built at the end of the Second World War, against the backdrop of the nuclear arms race.

January 2020, Cie ARTARA works for the first time with the OPRL (Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège): Fabrice Murgia is entrusted with the staging of an augmented concert (OPRL+) of Romeo and Juliet, under the musical direction of the venue’s artistic director, Gergely Madaras.

In November 2020, with Leonardo Garcia Alarcón (Cappella Mediterranea), he stages Il Palazzo Incantato (Luigi Rossi) at the Opéra de Dijon.

During the Covid19 Lockdown, the company suffers a number of cancellations, but works on two streaming projects: “JT2050”, a fictional news program written with over 300 teenagers, and Schauspieldirektor, an adaptation of Mozart’s Singspiel for the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie.

In 2021, Fabrice works as an actor and director with French author Laurent Gaudé, creating La dernière nuit du monde, presented at the Avignon Festival. He also wrote a text for the Teatro Stabile di Genova, in memory of the 20th anniversary of the G8 and the death of protester Carlo Giuliani.

He also directs the graduation work for actors at Barcelona’s Institut del Teatro, Dies Blancs, presented in early 2022 at Teatre Lliure.

In June 2022, with Bruxelles-Laique and Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, he creates Festival Taktik – the first two-day festival dedicated to young people. The second edition, which changes its name to Chatbox Festival, is scheduled for 2024.Fabrice also directs the 8th edition of Décrocher la lune, a one-evening urban opera featuring professional and amateur artists from La Louvière, which takes place on September 24, 2022. The Opéra Royal de Wallonie also calls on Fabrice to stage Rossini’s opera buffo Il Turco in Italia.

In 2023, Fabrice presents Alma, a duet with Peggy Lee Cooper, combining musical comedy, theater and cabaret.

He again collaborates with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and Gergerly Madara, staging the tumultuous adventures of Peer Gynt.

In 2024, he will create a show with Vladimir Steyaert for secondary school students, which will be presented in various schools in Brussels, Wallonia and France. Aaron will revisit the struggle of American activist Aaron Swartz.

In January 2024, he directs Brodeck at the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and works again with composer Daan Janssens.

In September 2024, he created Seasons for the opening of the new Théâtre de la Cité Bleue in Geneva, with Capella Mediterranea.
